Bilions years ago, Earth collided with an object - Theia. It was the size of Mars. This colision made the Moon. Scientists don’t know how fast the Moon formed. Some of them say that it formed quickly but others say it formed slowly. NASA did a computer simulation. It shows that the Moon formed very quickly, in few hours. Because rocks from the Earth formed the Moon, they are very similar.

It was not possible to do this simulation with a desktop computer. NASA used a supercomupter. Its name is Summit. It is tousands times faster than a desktop computer.
