Creation of the Moon - level B1

A long time ago, Earth collided with an object called Theia, which was the size of Mars. This collision created the Moon.

Scientists from NASA used computers to see how the Moon formed and discovered that it have formed very quickly, possibly in just a few hours. This is different from older theories that said the Moon formed slowly.

The new study also helps explain why the Moon is so similar to Earth in composition. It suggests that more Earth material was involved in forming the Moon.
